PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA – A near historic round by junior
Josh Dugard sparked Francis Marion University to an afternoon rally as the Patriots closed Monday (Sept. 22) in sixth place at the Temple University Men's Golf Invitational Tournament.
The 54-hole event included 36 holes on Monday and will conclude with the final round on Tuesday beginning at 7:40 a.m. at The 1912 Club course, a 6,951-yard par-70 layout. FMU golfers will tee off starting at 9:50 a.m.
Francis Marion carded a 291 team score during Monday's morning round, but rebounded to register the lowest team score of the afternoon round (267) and moved up six positions in the team standings to sixth place.
Drexel University holds a one-stroke lead over Lehigh University at the top of the team standings.
After shooting an 81 during the opening round, Dugard fired a five-under-par 65 tally over the second 18 holes. That round equals the second lowest score by a Patriot golfer over the past 25 seasons, trailing only a 64 by Fredrik Ohlsson in 2002. Dugard's second round included six birdies. He is tied for 29th in the players' standings with a 146 total.
Sophomore
Leander Neuhaus leads the FMU golfers as he is tied for 11th position after rounds of 72 and 71 on Monday. He is only five strokes out of the Top-5.
Red-shirt freshman
Chan Lee, playing in his first tournament as a Patriot, shot an 80 during the morning round, but followed with a three-under-par 67 in the afternoon – a round that included eight birdies, a bogey, and two double bogies. He is tied for 33rd place with a 147 total.
