SPARTANBURG, SC — The Francis Marion University golf team returned to action Monday (April 12), and once again it was junior Grant Sellers leading the way at the Wofford Invitational. Sellers carded rounds of even-par 72 and three-under 69 to pace the Patriots to a four-over-par 580 two-round total.
 
FMU sits in sole possession of fourth place, after firing one of three-afternoon rounds that was under par. The final round will be played Tuesday at the Country Club of Spartanburg (Par 72 and 6,648 yards).
 
Sellers is tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard at three-under-par, just three shots off the lead. The McBee, S.C., native, led the team with 26 par, five birdies, and an eagle on the day, and played the par 5s at four-under-par and par 4s at two-under. 
 
Senior John Burghardt and sophomore Mitchell Vance are tied for 17th at two-over after two rounds of play. Burghardt, a native of Ontario, Canada, fired rounds of 72 and two-over 74. He played the par 3s at even par and led the team with 26 pars. Vance, a Hartsville, S.C., native carded rounds of 74 and 72. The sophomore played the par 5s at four-under and registered eight birdies and an eagle.
 
FMU sophomore Casper Kennedy shot an opening-round three-over 75 and a second-round 72. He is tied for 26th position at three-over. The Norwegian led the team with nine birdies and played the par 5s at three-under. He was followed by senior Jacob Morris. Morris shot rounds of 74 and 75. The Charleston, S.C., native is tied for 43rd at five-over-par.
 
Georgia State sits atop the team leaderboard at 13-under-par, 277-286=563. Wofford's own Ryan Marter leads the player's standings at six-under 138 (69-69).
