KERRVILLE, TX – Senior
Xavier Schwarz shot a final-round even-par 72 to finish seventh in the players' standings while leading Francis Marion University to a sixth-place showing after Wednesday's (Apr. 23) play at the Southland Conference Men's Golf Tournament.
The three-day 54-hole championship event was played on the 7,253-yard, par 72 The Club at Comanche Trace (Hills/Creeks course) layout.
Francis Marion, fifth after play on both Monday (298) and Tuesday (288), recorded a team score of 293 over the final 18 holes to place sixth at 879, the team's sixth Top-10 finish of the season.
Augusta University won the team title and the automatic berth to the NCAA Division I Tournament by nine strokes over second-place University of the Incarnate Word.
Schwarz finished with a 71-70-72=213 scorecard, his season-low score for 54 holes, to finish alone in seventh place, his second Top-10 finish as a Patriot. Augusta' Bo Blanchard earned medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 200.
Other Francis Marion golfers included freshman
Leander Neuhaus, who shot 73 on Wednesday to finished tied for 15th position at 218; sophomore
Simon DiMaggio, who also shot 73 and tied for 31st at 224; junior
Pake June, who shot 75 and tied for 39th at 227; and sophomore
Ryan Bozard, who shot 78 and tied for 47th at 231.
June registered an eagle during the final round on the par-5, 561-yard 17th hole.
