AIKEN, SC – Senior
Xavier Schwarz shot a 36-hole total of seven-over-par 147 to finish in a tie for 15th position and Francis Marion University placed 11th in the team standings at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate Men's Golf Tournament on Tuesday (March 11).
The tournament was shortened to 36-holes due to rain on Monday. The event was played at the 6,617-yard, par-70 Palmetto Golf Club.
Francis Marion carded team scores of 311 and 300 to finish at 611, only two shots out of the Top 10.
Schwarz recorded rounds of 75 and 72. His second round included an eagle on the par-4, 458-yard fifth hole.
FMU freshman
Leander Neuhaus shot 72 and 79 scores and tied for 33rd in the players' standings at 151. His first round included an eagle on the 550-yard, par-5 fourteenth hole.
Other Patriot golfers included sophomore
Ryan Bozard (80-73=153) tied for 47th, sophomore
Josh Dugard (84-78=162) tied for 69th, and junior and Florence native
Pake June (88-77=165) in 73rd place.
Clemson University won the team title by five strokes over host USC Aiken, while USCA's Oscar Abrahamsson (74-64=138) earned medalist honors in a playoff.
Francis Marion will play again this week, Thursday through Saturday (March 13-15), at the Peoples Golf Championship at Sea Palms Resort, hosted by Western Carolina University on St. Simons Island, Ga.
