HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – Sophomore Ryan Bozard carded rounds of 75 and 73 on Monday (Feb. 17) to help propel Francis Marion University to a ninth-place standing after the opening day of the 19th-annual Wexford Intercollegiate Men's Golf Tournament.
 
The final round will begin at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday with a shotgun start at the 6,884-yard, par-72 Wexford course.
 
Francis Marion registered an opening-round 302 team score and improved to 293 during the afternoon round.  The Patriots are tied with Gardner-Webb University for ninth-place at 595, only six shots out of the Top 5.
 
Bozard is tied for 26th in the players' standings to lead FMU with a four-over-par 148 total.  Patriot freshman and Florence native Matthew Parker is tied for 32nd with a 74-75=149 scorecard.
 
Other Francis Marion golfers include freshman Leander Neuhaus (77-73=150) tied for 37th, sophomore Josh Dugard (76-76=152) tied for 49th, and senior Xavier Schwarz (81-72=153) tied for 54th position.
 
Xavier University (579) sits atop the team standings with a two-stroke lead over USC Aiken (581), while Denver University (583) is third.
 
Three golfers are tied for the top spot in the players' standings at four-under-par:  Appalachian State University's Herman Huus (68-72), Mercer University's JT Herman (73-67), and Cleveland State University's Andrew Kaye (69-71).
