GREENVILLE, SC – A trio of Francis Marion University golfers are separated by only two strokes and the Patriots stand 12th after the opening two rounds of the 54th-annual Furman University Intercollegiate Men's Golf Tournament that started on Saturday (Oct. 19).
The two-day, 54-hole event is being played on the 7,131-yard, par-71 Furman University Golf Course. FMU golfers will tee off for the final round on Sunday between 8:25 a.m. and 9:01 a.m. on hole No.10.
The Patriots carded a 293 team score over the opening 18 holes and were tied for fifth in the team standings, and followed that with a 294 tally over the Saturday's second round.
Texas A&M University leads the team standings by one stroke over the host Paladins.
Senior
Xavier Schwarz leads the Francis Marion golfers as he is tied for 41st position in the players' standings with a 72-74=146 scorecard. Freshman Neander Neuhaus is tied for 45th after shooting 73 and 74 (147 total) and sophomore
Ryan Bozard (74-74=148) is tied for 55th place.
Other Patriot golfers include sophomore
Josh Dugard (78-72=150) tied for 68th and sophomore
Simon DiMaggio (74-78=152) tied for 74th.
DiMaggio's opening round included an eagle on the par-4, 459-yard 17th hole, while Dugard fired an eagle on the par-5, 565-yard 15th hole during the afternoon round.
