BURLINGTON, NC – Freshman
Leander Neuhaus shot a final-round one-over-par 72 to pace Francis Marion University to an 11th-place finish at the Elon Phoenix Invitational Men's Golf Tournament which concluded on Tuesday (Oct. 15).
The two-day, 54-hole event was played on the 6,871-yard, par-71 Alamance Country Club course.
After identical rounds of 289 on Monday, FMU posted a 293 team score on Tuesday and finished tied with Gardner-Webb University at 871. UNC Greensboro claimed the team title easily outdistancing second-place East Carolina University by seven strokes.
Senior
Xavier Schwarz was the top Patriot finisher in the players' standings as he tied for 32nd position with a 72-70-75=217 scorecard. Buoyed by his first-round 69 and Tuesday's 72, Neuhaus tied for 37th place at 218.
Other FMU golfers were sophomores
Josh Dugard (73-73-74=220) and
Simon DiMaggio (75-72-73=220) among a group tied for 49th, while sophomore
Ryan Bozard (76-74-74=224) tied for 76th.
Justin LaRue of Longwood University earned medalist honors at 12-under-par 201.
The Patriots will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19-20, at the Furman University Intercollegiate Tournament in Greenville, S.C., the final event on FMU's fall semester schedule.
