Xavier Schwarz and
Mitchell Vance led Francis Marion University to a 14th-place showing after Monday's final round of the 53rd-annual Furman University Intercollegiate Men's Golf Tournament.

The 54-hole event was played on the 7,005-yard, par 71 Furman University Golf Course.

Francis Marion carded a final-round 294-team score to finish at 885 and climb one spot in the team standings.

Furman held off a final-round rally by Chattanooga to earn the team title by one stroke, 832-833.

Schwarz shot a final-round 73 to finish at 222 and tied for 56th position. Â Â Vance, a native of Hartsville, also finished at 222 after shooting 76 on Monday.

FMU freshman
Ryan Bozard led the Patriots on Monday with an even-par 71. He finished tied for 61st place with a 223 total. Freshman Simon DiMaggio was one stroke back at 224 and tied for 64th position after a final-round 74, and sophomore and Florence native
Pake June carded a 76 to tie for 69th at 225.

A trio of Chattanooga golfers occupied the top three spots in the players' standings, led by medalist Paul Conroy with a 70-64-71=205 scorecard.

The Patriots will return to the links for their final tournament of 2023 on Oct. 29-31 at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by Charleston Southern University.
