GREENVILLE, SC – Carlos Garre and Grant Sellers fired final-round even-par 71 scores on Sunday (Oct. 23) to lead Francis Marion University to a seventh-place finish at the Furman Intercollegiate Men's Golf Tournament.
 
The 54-hole event was contested on the 7,005-yard, par-71 Furman University Golf Course.
 
Francis Marion recorded a 292 team score over the final 18 holes to finish at 870 and in sole possession of seventh place, three strokes ahead of Coastal Carolina University and the University of Richmond.
 
Chattanooga (838) easily captured the team title by 14 strokes over second-place Davidson College and James Madison University (852).
 
Garre, a product of North Myrtle Beach High School, earned his second consecutive Top-10 finish as he tied for eighth in the players' standings with a 70-69-71=210 scorecard.  His 54-hole total was the lowest of his collegiate career.
 
Sellers, a product of McBee High School, placed 21st with a 215 total.
 
Florence native and Trinity Collegiate School graduate Pake June shot a final round 73 to finish tied for 36th with a 220 total – the best 54-hole total of his young career.
 
Xavier Schwarz (79-72-77=228) and Hartsville native Mitchell Vance (81-71-85=237) rounded out the Patriot playing squad with 70th and 80th-place showings.
 
FMU will play its final tournament of the fall portion of its schedule Oct. 30-Nov. 1 at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate hosted by Charleston Southern University.
