AMERICUS, GA - The Francis Marion University men's and women's tennis teams ended their three-match swing through the Peach State on a successful note with 9-0 Peach Belt Conference victories over Georgia Southwestern State University on Sunday afternoon (April 1).
Both Francis Marion teams return home to Florence and will host Queens University of Charlotte on Wednesday at 2 p.m. on the Kassab Courts. Admission is free.
The 21st-ranked FMU men improve to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the PBC, while the Patriot women even their overall record at 8-8 and move to 2-6 in conference play.
Francis Marion won five of the six men's singles matches in straight sets (by freshman William Anth-Forsberg at No.1, freshman Paul Meuwissen at No.3, sophomore Henri Broeseler at No.4, freshman Charles Hutchings at No.5, and freshman Matt Astell at No.6), while Mauricio Guerrero won in a third-set tiebreaker at the No.2 position.
Junior Marie Krueger (No.1), senior Sofia Henning (No.2), junior Anna Wintrich (No.3), sophomore Magan Head (No.4), freshman Lesshika Vala (No.5), and freshman Elisa Lang (No.6) earned straight-set singles wins in the women's contest.
