MURFREESBORO, NC - Junior Magdalena Skachova and freshman Janka Juhasz led the way, securing both doubles and singles points to establish control early, as Francis Marion University had an authoritative win over Chowan University 6-1 in Conference Carolina's women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon (Apr. 18) at the Rose Family Tennis Complex.
 
Francis Marion now sits at a 9-10 overall and 8-4 in conference action, whereas Chowan drops to 5-14 and 2-10.   FMU shares the East Division title with Barton College with 7-1 marks.
 
The Conference Carolinas Tournament is set for Wednesday through Saturday (Apr. 22-25) at Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.  Francis Marion will be the eighth seed and will face the fifth-seeded Erskine College Flying Fleet on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
 
Skachova and Juhasz overwhelmed the Hawks at No.1 doubles 6-1, while Patriot sophomore Lara Lanno and freshman Alyssa Boschin clinched the doubles point, and a 1-0 lead, with a score of 6-2 at the No.3 spot. Chowan earned the win in the No. 2 slot 6-4.
 
Francis Marion freshman Lucia Acuna Montero finished first in singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No.6 position, before Chowan nabbed its first point with a victory in the No. 1 spot 6-3, 6-2.
 
Patriot sophomore Fátima Hernández Huerta was victorious 7-5, 6-0 at No.4 singles and Skachova provided the clinching point with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win at the No.2 spot.  Skachova finishes the regular season with an 11-1 mark against conference opponents.
 
Juhasz won 6-2, 6-1 at No.3 singles, while Boschin finished the job with an overpowering 6-1, 6-1 win at No.5.
