SUMTER, SC – Despite singles wins from sophomore

Alyssa Boschin, eighth-seeded Francis Marion University lost a hard-fought 4-2 decision to 48th-ranked and fifth-seeded Erskine College, Wednesday night (Apr. 22) in the open-round of the Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Tournament.
Francis Marion ends its season with a 9-11 mark, while Erskine (13-8) advances to Thursday's quarterfinal round.
The Flying Fleet claimed 6-2 wins at No.1 and No.2 doubles to earn the doubles point and a 1-0 advantage.
As singles play began, Erskine upped its lead to 2-0 with a straight-sets victory at the No.3 position.
Lanno trimmed the margin to 2-1 with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the top spot. Erskine answered with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No.2 singles, but Boschin kept FMU's hopes alive with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No.6 rung.
However, the Flying Fleet registered a three-sets win (4-6, 6-2, 6-4) at the No.5 slot to clinch the match. In the remaining match, FMU sophomore Fatima Hernandez Huerta was in a third-set battle at No.4 singles when play was stopped.
