AIKEN, SC – Senior Callum McGuigan shot a final-round 73 to help Francis Marion University to a 10th-place showing on the final day (Tuesday, March 6) of The Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by USC Aiken.

Tuesday's play features a rain delay and inflated scores, as no team was able to break par.  The 54-hole tournament was played on the 6,617-yard, par 70 Palmetto Golf Club course.

The University of Virginia maintained its second-round lead to capture the team championship by nine strokes over Georgia Southern University 840-849.  The host Pacers finished third at 855, followed by UAB (856) and East Carolina University (857).

FMU was one of four squads to tally a 305 team score on Tuesday leaving the Patriots in a tie for 10th position – exactly where the Patriots stood after Monday's two rounds.  It is Francis Marion's fourth Top-10 finish of the season and third in a row.

McGuigan led the five FMU golfers as he finished tied for 28th place in the players' standings with a 74-71-73=218 scorecard.  Senior Marc Casullo (70-69-80=219) finished tied for 33rd position, while senior Alessandro Caselli (73-69-78=220) tied for 38th, junior Lars Sandvoll (78-71-78=227) tied for 69th, and freshman John Burghardt (79-79-76=234) tied for 79th place.   

Daniel Overas of Coastal Carolina University (70-67-70=207) earned medalist honors after winning a playoff with Georgia Southern's Jake Storey (69-69-69=207).  Both finished at 3-under-par.

Francis Marion will return to action on Monday (March 12) at the one-day Southern Intercollegiate Championships, hosted by the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.
