GREENVILLE, SC – Senior Alessandro Caselli shot a final-round one-under-par 71 and senior Callum McGuigan registered a Top-15 finish to help lead Francis Marion University to an eighth-place finish at the 49th-annual Furman University Intercollegiate Men's Golf Tournament that concluded on Sunday (March 25). 

The 21-team tournament saw the weather-delayed second round finished on Sunday morning prior to the shotgun start of round three on the 6,994-yard, par 72 Furman University Golf Course.

Francis Marion tallied a 300 team score on Sunday to finish tied with Gardner-Webb University at 884.  It is the sixth Top-10 showing for the Patriots this season and the fifth in a row this spring.  FMU was tied for seventh after Friday's opening round and ninth when the second round ended.

Twenty-eighth-ranked University of North Florida recorded the team title as the Ospreys finished 17-strokes under par at 847, a whopping 18 strokes ahead of second-place University of West Virginia (865).  Virginia Tech finished third at 867, while USC Aiken and the host Paladins finished tied for fourth at 875.

McGuigan shot a final-round 74 and finished tied for 14th with a 54-hole total of even-par 216. It is his second-best finish this season, bettered only by a 13th-place showing at The Battle at Stono Ferry event last November.

Caselli finished tied for 32nd at 222, while junior Lars Sandvoll (77-69-77=223) tied for 42nd position and freshman Jacob Morris (77-75-78=230) tied for 77th.

FMU senior Marc Casullo had to withdraw from the event on Sunday with an injury after shooting 70 and 76 during the first two days.

Patriot freshman John Burghardt played as an individual and finish tied for 70th at 73-74-82=229.

UNF's Phillip Knowles captured medalist honors with a nine-under-par 66-71-70=207 scorecard, three strokes better than teammate Andrew Alligood (70-72-68=210).

Francis Marion will return to the links on April 9 and 10 at the Wofford College Invitational Tournament.
