GREENVILLE, SC – Senior Marc Casullo shot a two-under-par 70 and helped lead Francis Marion University to a seventh-place tie after the opening round of the 49th-annual Furman University Intercollegiate Men's Golf Tournament, played on Friday (March 23).
The three-day event will continue on Saturday with round two on the 6,994-yard, par 72 Furman University Golf Course.
Twenty-eighth-ranked University of North Florida leads the team standings after carding a 10-under-par 278 total on Friday. USC Aiken is second, five strokes back at 283, while Yale University (288), Virginia Tech (289), and the University of West Virginia (290) round out the Top 5.
Francis Marion registered a first-round tally of 295 and is tied with James Madison University and the host Paladins.
Casullo recorded four birdies and is tied for fourth. Senior Callum McGuigan also posted four birdies on Friday and is tied for 21st position with at even-par 72. Senior Alessandro Caselli (76) is tied for 61st, while junior Lars Sandvoll (77) and freshman Jacob Morris (77) are tied for 69th position.
FMU freshman John Burghardt is playing as an individual and shot a one-over 73 and is tied for 32nd in the players' standings.
UNF's Phillip Knowles holds a three-stroke lead in the players' standings after firing a six-under 66. Two golfers are tied at three-under-par, while Casullo is among a group of six golfers at two-under.
