HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – Sophomore Lars Sandvoll fired an even-par 72 and juniors Alessandro Caselli and Callum McGuigan each shot 73 to rally Francis Marion University to a seventh-place finish at the Patriots' own 12th-annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Golf Tournament on Tuesday (Feb. 28).

The 54-hole event was held on the 6,913 yards, par 72 Wexford Plantation course.

Gardner-Webb University, which stood third after Monday's play, carded a 293 score to capture the team championship.  The Runnin' Bulldogs finished four strokes ahead of Winthrop University and six strokes ahead of both USC Aiken and Radford University.

Francis Marion also registered a 293 score over the final 18 holes to move up five spots and finished in a tie with Mercer University with a 899 tally.

Junior Marc Casullo shot a final-round 75 to finish in a tie for 15th position at 75-72-75=222, while Caselli (76-74-73=223) tied for 19th place, McGuigan (77-79-73=229) tied for 43rd, Sandvoll (82-77-72=231) tied for 49th, and freshman Haakon Andersen (79-76-80=235) tied for 66th position.

Caselli's final 18 holes included four birdies.

Myles Creighton of Radford shot a final-round 68 to capture medalist honors with a 71-73-68=212 scorecard, three strokes ahead of GWU's Vincent Blanchette.

Francis Marion will return to action this weekend at USCA's Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate Tournament with 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday.
