CAMDEN, SC – Junior Lars Sandvoll fired rounds of 71 and four-under-par 66 to lead Francis Marion University to a fourth-place showing after the opening day of Camden Collegiate Invitational Golf Tournament, Saturday (Oct. 21).
The 17-team event is being hosted by the University of South Carolina on the 6,455-yard, par 70 Camden Country Club course. The final round will be contested on Sunday.
The host Gamecocks lead the team standings with a 36-hole score of 549. James Madison University is second at 560, followed by Elon University (563), Francis Marion (568), and USC Aiken (570) to round out the Top 5.
FMU carded a 289 score over the opening 18 holes and then shaved 10 strokes off that total during the afternoon round.
Sandvoll is tied for fifth place in the players' standings with his 137 tally, only two strokes behind the tournament leader Shota Ozaki of James Madison, who stands at 69-66=135.
Other Patriot golfers include senior Callum McGuigan, who is tied for 14th position with a 72-69=141 scorecard; senior Marc Casullo tied for 21st at 71-71=142; freshman Michael Rials tied for 47th at 75-73=148; and senior Alessandro Caselli tied for 73rd at 76-76=152.
Both Sandvoll and McGuigan registered seven birdies over Saturday's 36 holes. Sandvoll's second-round 66 was his lowest score as a Patriot, while McGuigan's 69 matches his lowest round at FMU.
