Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, GA – Georgia College used a decisive 16-0 run that began late in the second quarter and ended early in the third period to register a 72-47 win over Francis Marion University, Monday evening (Jan. 9) in Peach Belt Conference women's basketball action.
Francis Marion (7-7, 2-3) will play at USC Aiken on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. before returning home to entertain the University of North Georgia on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Smith University Center.
Sophomore Shaunice Fulmore led the Patriots with 15 points, while freshman guard Abigail Bullock added 14 points and six rebounds.
Ana Anderson paced Georgia College (9-3, 3-2) with 14 points off the Bobcat bench, while Ta'Asia Wright and Alyah McGriff both tallied 13 points and seven rebounds.
The opening quarter featured three ties, but the horn sounded with FMU holding a 13-12 advantage. The Patriots led 15-14 following a Fulmore layup early in the second period, but Georgia College scored six straight points to take the lead for good.
A three-pointer by Bullock brought Francis Marion to within 26-25 with 3:10 left in the first half, but the Bobcats ran off nine consecutive points to lead 35-25 at intermission. The run continued as the teams returned to the floor in the third quarter with Georgia College scoring the first seven points to open a 42-25 advantage.
A three-pointer by Fulmore trimmed the deficit to 14 points, 46-32, late in the third period, but the Bobcats ended the stanza holding a 51-36 margin.
Another three-pointer by Bullock again pulled the Patriots to within 14 points (53-39) in the opening minute of the fourth quarter. However, Georgia College scored the next 11 points to assume a 25-point lead.
Francis Marion connected on 29.8 percent of its field goal attempts, was 7-of-16 from three-point range, and hit 6-of-10 free throws. Georgia College shot 54.2 percent from the field, was 3-of-8 from long range, and made 17-of-24 attempts at the foul line.
