AIKEN, SC – Senior Tobias Pettersen and junior YongLiang shot rounds of 73 and 75 respectively during Tuesday's (March 8) final round of the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational Men's Golf Tournament, and Francis Marion University finished 18th in the team standings.
The tournament was hosted by USC Aiken at the Palmetto Golf Club - recognized as the fourth oldest golf course in the United States – and its par 70, 6,617 yard layout.
The University of South Carolina claimed the team championship by a whopping 18 strokes over second-place University of Virginia (839). The Gamecocks finished with a 54-hole score of 19-under-par 821. Augusta University (857) and East Carolina University (861) and Chattanooga (861) rounded out the Top-5.
Francis Marion carded a 308 team score on Tuesday to finish at 912.
Pettersen tied for 32nd in the players' standings with a 72-74-73=219 scorecard. Other Patriot golfers included sophomore Marc Casullo in 85th position at 75-74-84=233, freshman Lars Sandvoll in 87th place at 82-75-78=235, and Shao (80-81-75=236) and senior Will Godfrey (80-74-82=236) tied for 88th position.
South Carolina's Matthew NeSmith edged Maverick Antcliff of Augusta by one stroke for medalist honors. NeSmith finished with a 67-67-69=203 seven-under-par scorecard.
The Patriots will next play the Southern Intercollegiate Championships, hosted by the University of Georgia, on Monday (March 14) at Athens Country Club.
