MONTEVALLO, AL – Junior Samantha Koelliker, junior Eva Lieben, and freshman Anna Wintrich each contributed two wins to help lead 41st-ranked Francis Marion University past the University of Montevallo 6-3, Saturday afternoon (March 5) in Peach Belt Conference women's tennis action.
The Patriot women improve to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in PBC play with their sixth consecutive win. Montevallo drops to 6-3 and 1-3. FMU will conclude its weekend road trip with a Sunday morning match at Clayton State University at 10 a.m.
The next home match for the women's squad will be March 13 against Georgia Southwestern State University.
Koelliker and freshman Marie Krueger gave Francis Marion a quick 1-0 lead with an 8-1 win at No.1 doubles. After the Falcons captured an 8-6 win at the No.2 doubles position, Lieben and Wintrich earned an 8-5 victory at No.3 doubles to put the Patriots ahead 2-1 heading into singles play.
Lieben, Wintrich, and Koelliker then provided the necessary clinching points with straight-set wins at singles spots No.3, 6, and 2 respectively. Sophomore Sofia Henning later claimed a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No.4 position to account for the other FMU point.
Koelliker and Krueger upped their season doubles record to 10-1, while Koelliker improved her career singles mark to 36-13.
