DULUTH, GA – Sophomore Lars Sandvoll shot an even-par 72 to lead Francis Marion University during the final round of the sixth-annual AutoTrader.com College Golf Classic on Tuesday (Oct. 18) as the Patriots placed 13th in the team standings.
Francis Marion registered a 303 team score to finish the 54-hole event at 896.
Junior Alessandro Caselli was the highest finishing Patriot in the players' standings as he tied for 44th with a 70-73-77=220 scorecard.
Junior Marc Casullo finished tied for 56th position at 74-74-76=224, while Sandvoll tied for 62nd place at 76-78-72=226. Junior Callum McGuigan (76-73-78=227) tied for 67th and freshman Haakon Andersen (77-77-87=241) tied for 80th.
Casullo (38), Caselli (37), and McGuigan (37) all placed among the tournament leaders in pars recorded.
The University of Mississippi (831) earned the team title by 15-strokes over second-place Lipscomb University (846). Troy University (847) finished third, followed by the University of South Florida (848) and host Georgia State University (857).
Braden Thornberry of Ole Miss fired a final-round six-under-par 66 to run away with medalist honors. He finished at 198 for the tournament, eight strokes ahead of the second-place finisher.
Georgia State hosted the tournament at the 6,694-yard, par 72 Berkeley Hills Country Club course in Duluth, Ga.
Francis Marion will return to action on Oct. 22 and 23 at the Camden (S.C.) Collegiate Classic hosted by the University of South Carolina.
