FLORENCE, SC – The 30th-ranked Francis Marion University women's tennis team defeated the University of Montevallo 5-1, Monday afternoon (April 6) in Peach Belt Conference action on the Kassab Courts.
The Francis Marion women improve to 9-6 overall and even their PBC mark at 5-5.
Francis Marion took two of three doubles matches winning at positions No.1 and No.3. In singles play, senior Julia Graf won in straight sets at the No.2 spot as did junior Christina Graf at No,.4 and junior Mona Piller at No.5. The other three singles matches were left unfinished upon the Patriots reaching five points.
Julia Graf's win moves her to with one victory of tying for third place on the Patriot career list for singles wins. Her 64-11 mark trails Mona Blauen's 65-12 career record. Graf is three wins shy of the second spot (Lee Whitwell's 67-24) and seven shy of the FMU career record set by Jitka Gavdunova (71-8).
Graf also occupies fourth place on the school's career doubles victories list at 65-21, two wins shy of Tereza Sykorova, who stands third at 67-7.
Both Francis Marion squads will entertain the University of Mount Olive on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
