Patriot Tennis blows past Hurricanes

AMERICUS, GA – The 30th-ranked Francis Marion University women's tennis team dropped only 11 games en route to a 9-0 blanking of Georgia Southwestern State University on Sunday (March 8), while the 35th-ranked Patriot men defeated the Hurricanes 6-3.

The FMU women improve to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the Peach Belt, while the Patriot men are now 3-4 and 1-2.

The women captured 8-1, 8-1, and 8-0 wins in doubles play and only sophomore Samantha Koelliker at No.1 singles dropped more than two games, and she won 7-5, 6-2.  Julia Graf, Sofia Henning, Christina Graf, and Mona Piller all won their singles matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

In men's action, Francis Marion trailed 2-1 after doubles play, but received straight-set singles wins from Richard Ashforth at No.1, Jannik Roettlingsberger at No.2, Gavin Davison at No.3, Dion Nijboer at No.5, and Krisztian Mago at No.6.

The men will host West Virginia Wesleyan College on Thursday at 1 p.m. and both FMU squads will entertain the University of Mount Olive on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
