FLORENCE, SC – The 30th-ranked Francis Marion University women's tennis team and the 35th-ranked Patriot men's squad both claimed 8-1 non-conference wins over North Greenville University, Wednesday afternoon (March 4) on the Kassab Courts.
The FMU women even their overall mark at 3-3, while the men improve to 2-4. Both squads will return to Peach Belt Conference action on Sunday morning with a 10 a.m. road match at Georgia Southwestern State University.
The next home matches will be March 12 for the men against West Virginia Wesleyan College and both teams will entertain the University of Mount Olive on March 13 at 2:30 p.m.
In Wednesday's men's match, sophomore Richard Ashforth ran his career singles mark to 18-3 with 6-2, 6-3 victory at the No.1 spot. He also teamed with sophomore Jannik Roettlingsberger for an 8-0 blanking at No.2 doubles.
On the women's side, the Patriots lost only at the No.4 singles position. Sophomore Samantha Koelliker and senior Julia Graf both won in straight sets at the No.1 and No.2 spots. FMU also cruised to relatively easy doubles wins at all three positions, losing only three combined games.
