CAMDEN, SC – Senior Tobias Pettersen is among the Top 20 golfers after shooting a 69 and a 76 and Francis Marion University is tied for ninth place in the team standings after Saturday's (Oct. 24) opening two rounds of the Camden Collegiate Classic.
The 54-hole event will conclude Sunday on the 6,350-yard, par-70 Camden Country Club course.
Francis Marion occupied sixth place after an opening round 290, but an afternoon 304 tally dropped the Patriots to a ninth-place tie with Georgia Southern University. However, at 594 the Patriots are only 10 strokes outside the Top 5.
The host University of South Carolina Gamecocks shot a sizzling 265 score in the afternoon – 25 strokes better than any other team score of the second round – to assume the lead of the team standings with a 553 total. Wofford College is second 22 strokes behind the Gamecocks.
Pettersen is tied for 19th at 5-over-par 145. The other Patriot golfers include freshman Lars Sandvoll tied for 30th at 72-75=147, sophomore Marc Casullo tied for 37th at 73-76=149, junior YongLiang Shao tied for 57th at 77-77=154, and sophomore Alessandro Caselli tied for 67th at 76-81=157.
Two FMU golfers played as individuals. Senior John Lurie Pate is tied for 62nd at 76-79=155 and senior Will Godfrey is tied for 65th at 80-76=156.
Andrew Novak of Wofford leads the players' standings with a 67-67=134 scorecard, three strokes ahead of two golfers tied for second.
Pate and Godfrey will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday with the other five Patriots beginning to tee off at 9:42 a.m.
