FLORENCE, SC – The 41st-ranked Francis Marion University women's tennis team dropped a 6-0 decision to second-ranked and top-seeded Armstrong Atlantic State University, Friday morning (April 18) in semifinal action at the 2014 Peach Belt Conference Tennis Tournament.
FMU (14-6), seeded fourth in the tournament, will play 24th-ranked and third-seed Flagler College in the tournament third-place match at 8 a.m. weather permitting at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Tennis Center. That match will be key in determining possible bids to the NCAA Division II national tournament.
Armstrong will face second-seeded Columbus State University in the title match, also at 8 a.m.
The Pirates (23-1), winners of the past two NCAA Division II national championships and the last 10 PBC championships, won the doubles matches on Friday by scores of 8-2, 8-2, and 8-0. Armstrong then captured singles victories at positions four through six.
