Patriots clip Falcons 9-0, Blauen reaches career milestone

FLORENCE, SC – The 11th-ranked Francis Marion University women's tennis team survived a couple of tough sets in doubles play and then cruised to a 9-0 blanking of the University of Montevallo, Sunday morning (March 17) in Peach Belt Conference action on the Kassab Courts.

The FMU women up their overall mark to 14-1 and improve to 7-1 in conference play, while Montevallo drops to 6-6 and 2-5.  The Patriot women have won their past 53 matches against unranked opponents dating back to early in the 2009 season.

Senior Mona Blauen captured easy wins at No. 1 doubles and No.1 singles.  Her victory in doubles runs her career record to 63-14 tying Lee Whitwell (63-20) for third on the Patriot career doubles victories list.

Her 60 career singles victories (against only 10 defeats) is also third on the all-time FMU list and only seven shy of second place.

FMU sophomore Julia Graf , Blauen's doubles partner, won in straight sets at No. 3 singles to improve to 14-0 on the season.

Both the Francis Marion women and men will play host to Mount Olive College on Friday at 2 p.m.
