AIKEN, SC – Freshman Tobias Pettersen carded rounds of 75 and 76 to lead Francis Marion University on Monday (March 11) as the Patriots stand 17th after 36 holes of the 16th-annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational Golf Tournament.
The 54-hole event is being hosted by USC Aiken at historic par 70, 6,617-yard Palmetto Golf Club.
The University of South Carolina holds a one-stroke lead (570-571) over N.C. State University in the team standings. Augusta State University and the University of Virginia (574) are tied for third place, while Clemson University (577) and Liberty University (577) round out the Top 5.
Francis Marion tallied rounds of 303 and 308 to stand at 611. FMU was tied for 16th after the opening 17 holes.
Pettersen is tied for 52nd place in the individual standings, while senior Kenneth Svanum (72-80=152) is tied for 60th, sophomore Austin Frick (79-74=153) is tied for 65th, sophomore Lukas Crisp (77=79=156) is tied for 76th, and sophomore John Michael Schaffer (84-79=163) is tied for 89th.
Virginia's Mac McLaughlin leads the individual standings after firing rounds of 71 and 64.
Francis Marion golfers will be paired with the University of Nebraska and Wofford College on Tuesday for the final round. The Patriots will begin teeing off at 9 a.m. on the 10th hole.
