KIAWAH ISLAND, SC – Francis Marion University sophomore Tobias Pettersen fired a two-under-par 70 and the Patriots gained one spot in the final team standings to finish tied with Notre Dame for 11th place at the Invitational at The Ocean Couse on Kiawah Island.
FINAL RESULTS
The University of South Florida claimed the team championship after shooting 295 on Tuesday to finish with a 54-hole tally of 871. The University of South Alabama placed second at 875, while SEC members Kentucky and Georgia tied for third at 876.
FMU posted its best team score of the tournament on Tuesday, 298, to finish at 909, tied with the Fighting Irish and one stroke behind Western Carolina University. Only five strokes separated teams seven through 12 in the standings.
Pettersen opened his final round with eight consecutive pars. He finished tied for 41st position at 81-78-70=229.
Junior Lukas Crisp was the Patriots' top finisher as he tied for 15th after registering a 71-75-76=222 scorecard. Junior John Michael Schaffer tied for 53rd position (84-70-78=232), while senior Taylor Banks finished 59th (77-78-79=234) and junior Austin Frick tied for 70th (81-84-74=239).
Georgia's Joey Garber earned medalist honors after shooting a final-round 68 and finishing at nine-under 207, three strokes ahead of South Florida's Richard James and WCU's J.T. Poston.
Francis Marion will conclude the fall portion of its 2013-14 schedule on Nov. 4-5 at the University of North Florida Intercollegiate Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla.
