AIKEN, SC – Francis Marion University finished the day where it start in 15th place after Tuesday's (March 6) final round of the 15th-annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate Golf Tournament.

Junior Sebastian Backlund paced the Patriots throughout the 54-hole event, which was hosted by USC Aiken and played on the par 70, 6,617-yard Palmetto Golf Club course.

Clemson University leap-frogged the University of South Carolina and the University of Virginia for the tournament crown after trailing the two schools by one stroke after Monday's play.  The Tigers finished with a final round team score of 283 to complete the comeback victory (286-285-283=854) topping Virginia by one stroke (292-278-285=855) and USC by nine (286-284-293=863).

FMU carded team rounds of 305 and 295 on Monday before finishing with a 306 on Tuesday to finish at 906.

Individually, Backlund finished tied for 35th position with a 222 (75-72-75) tally, only five strokes out of the top 15.  Patriot junior Taylor Banks (76-73-76=225) finished tied for 53rd place, while junior Kenneth Svanum (80-72-76=228) closed out the tournament tied for 65th.  Sophomore Fredrik Sporck (74-79-79=232) tied for 78th, and junior Travis Gantt (83-78-79=240) placed 88th.

Ben Kohles (69-70-69=208) of Virginia held off Crawford Reeves (69-70-70=209) of Clemson to claim the medalist honors at two-under-par.

The Patriots are back in action after a 10-day hiatus when they travel to Greenville, S.C., to play in the Furman University Intercollegiate on March 16-18.
