Francis Marion University / McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week

Francis Marion University senior women's volleyball middle blocker Iyanla Thigpen has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 15-21, 2021.

The 6-2 native of Chicago, Ill., averaged 2.50 kills and 1.00 blocks per set as Francis Marion defeated Emmanuel College (Ga.) 3-2 and North Greenville University 3-2 to win the Conference Carolinas Tournament title and earn the program's fourth-ever bid to the NCAA Division II national tournament.  Thigpen also posted a .400 hitting percentage with only five errors in 50 swings and earned the tournament Most Outstanding Player award.  She recorded 13 kills in the semifinal win over the Lions and 12 kills in the championship match against NGU.

FMU (21-10) will play Lenoir-Rhyne University on Dec. 2 in the opening match of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament in Anderson, S.C.
