Senior guard Jada Richards of the Francis Marion University women's basketball team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Dec.9-15, 2024.

The Douglasville, Ga., native scored a career-high 28 points in a come-from-behind 85-75 overtime road win at Barton College in FMU's only action last week.  She shot 10-of-22 from the field, including 3-of-8 on three-pointers, and was 5-of-8 at the foul line, while recording seven rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one blocked shot with no turnovers in 37 minutes of action.  She helped FMU rally from a 17-point third-quarter deficit, and the Patriots outscored Barton 10-0 in overtime with six points coming from Richards. 

Francis Marion is off to its best start in nine years since the 2015-16 squad opened 9-0 and eventually went to the NCAA Tournament.

The Patriots (7-1, 3-0) will play at Converse University on Tuesday (Dec. 17) at 2 p.m. and at USC Aiken on Thursday (Dec. 19) at 1:30 p.m. to close out the pre-New Year's portion of their schedule.
