Redshirt junior Charlie Bussey III of the Francis Marion University baseball program was selected the McDonald’s Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Apr. 13-19, 2026.
In a 3-1 week, Bussey III batted a staggering .700 (7-for-10) with four homers, nine RBIs, 14 runs scored, 10 walks, and two stolen bases. He slugged an impressive 1.900 with a .870 on-base percentage over four games played. Bussey III also eclipsed the FMU all-time home run record with 31 career blasts. In a win over No. 22 Wingate, he reached base five times after going 1-for-1 with a solo homer, three runs scored, three walks, and a hit-by-pitch. In the series win over Erskine, Bussey III went 6-for-9 with three home runs, 8 RBIs, 11 runs scored, seven walks, two hit-by-pitches, and one stolen base.
The Patriots return to action on Tuesday, April 21, for a non-conference regional matchup versus USC Aiken at Sparrow Stadium. FMU closes the regular season this weekend with a three-game series at King University. Game 1 is scheduled on Friday, April 24, at 2 p.m. before the doubleheader is played on Saturday with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
