Junior forward Jose Coutinho of the Francis Marion University men's soccer team has been named the McDonald’s Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Sept. 7-13.

A native of Lisbon, Portugal, Coutinho totaled three points on one goal and one assist, both contributing to a 2-0 week for the Patriots.

On Wednesday night, he broke away down the right side from midfield before passing to Lucas Vila, who scored the game-winner in the 75th minute in a 1-0 win at Wingate. Over the weekend, Coutinho netted the eventual game-winning goal just 56 seconds into the first half as Francis Marion cruised to a 5-0 win over Shorter.

Francis Marion returns to Hartzler Field on Wednesday, Sept. 16, to face Lander University in a regional non-conference matchup at 7 p.m.
