Box Score FLORENCE, SC –Junior forward Kiana Adderton tallied career-high totals of 36 points and 16 rebounds and Francis Marion University scored the game's final 14 points to grab an exciting 65-60 come-from-behind victory over Flagler College, Saturday afternoon (Jan. 25) in Peach Belt Conference women's basketball action.
With its fourth straight win, Francis Marion improves to 9-7 overall and evens its PBC mark at 5-5. The Patriots, now tied for fifth-place in the conference, will travel to UNC Pembroke on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off. FMU will return home to host Georgia Southwestern State College next Saturday (Feb. 1) for a Homecoming with the contest starting at 1:30 p.m.
Adderton connected on 14-of-22 shots and was 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. Her point total was the highest by a Patriot in 12 years, dating back to Jennifer Dyer's 37-point outburst at Columbus State University on Feb. 10, 2008. Adderton's rebound total also accounted for her third double-double of the year, while she added three assists and three blocked shots.
FMU freshman guard Scarlett Gilmore chipped in eight points, six rebounds, and a team-high four steals. Junior guard Macy Passmore added six points, while senior 6-2 center Tatyana McClaney tallied five points, grabbed eight rebounds, and four blocks.
Flagler was led by senior forward Rayven Wade with 21 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Senior guard Jazzy Mathis scored 15 points, while junior forward Scout Frame added 14 points and a team-high 13 rebounds.
Twelve of Adderton's points came in the final period as FMU outscored the Saints 23-6. The Patriot defense held Flagler to 2-of-15 shooting over the final 10 minutes.
FMU trailed 43-30 at halftime and was down by 15 points (54-39) late in the third quarter. A three-pointer by Adderton trimmed the margin to 54-42 entering the final period.
The two teams traded buckets to open the fourth, but then the Patriots gradually began chipping away at the deficit. Trailing 60-51 with 6:51 remaining, Francis Marion scored the game's final 14 points as Flagler missed its last 13 field goal attempts.
A three-pointer from near the top of the key by junior guard Camryn Johnson gave FMU a 61-60 lead with 2:41 on the clock. Adderton added a lay-up and two free throws in the final minute to account for the five-point margin.
