Box Score FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University held Georgia College scoreless for the opening 5:55 of the second quarter and used that 12-0 run to help secure a 67-52 Peach Belt Conference win over the visiting Bobcats, Wednesday evening (Jan. 22) in women's basketball action.
Francis Marion improves to 8-7 overall and 4-5 in conference play with its third consecutive win. FMU will continue PBC play on Saturday (Jan. 25) as it hosts Flagler College for a 1:30 p.m. tip-off.
Freshman guard Scarlett Gilmore led the Patriots with 18 points, three assists, and two steals. The Rock Hill native connected on 6-of-9 field goal attempts, including a pair of three pointers. Junior forward Kiana Adderton registered 17 points, while dishing out a team-high four assists.
FMU junior Macy Passmore tied her career-high for the second time in three games with nine points on a trio of three-pointers, while senior 6-2 center Tatyana McClaney added five points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and blocked four shots.
Georgia College was led by guards Harper Vick with 16 points and Keyonna Wesley with 12 points.
The Patriots held Georgia College to 34 percent shooting from the field, en route to allowing the fewest points of the 2019-20 campaign.
Trailing 13-8 entering the second quarter, three-pointers by Passmore and junior guard Taylor Simmons ignited the 12-0 spurt that gave FMU the lead for good at 20-13. The Patriot advantage stood at nine points, 30-21, at halftime.
Francis Marion held a 49-35 lead at the end of the third period, and were never seriously threatened in the final quarter. A three-pointer by Adderton gave FMU its largest lead, 63-40, with 4:33 remaining.
FMU connected on 45.3 percent of its field goal attempts and hit 11-of-16 free throws.
