Box Score ORANGEBURG, SC – Despite a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds from freshman forward Stephanie Brown, Francis Marion University could not overcome a 19-1 first-half run by Claflin University and the Patriots fell to the Lady Panthers 73-53, Wednesday night (Nov. 19) in non-conference women's basketball action.
Francis Marion drops to 1-2. The Patriots conclude their season-opening four-game road trip when they play at Fayetteville State University on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Freshmen Khayani Chandler and Briana Burgins followed Brown with 11 and nine points respectively.
Senior Uniqua Mitchell led Claflin (1-0) with 25 points and nine rebounds.
FMU held an early 9-6 lead, but nearing the midway point of the first half the score was knotted at 10-10. Claflin then used the 19-1 spurt to take a commanding 29-11 advantage. The Lady Panthers led 36-17 at intermission as FMU connected on only 6-of-30 first-half shots.
The Patriots would get no closer than 17 in the second stanza.
For the game, Claflin shot 44.1 percent from the floor, while the Patriots were at 29.6 percent.
