Women's Basketball

Frankly put, Patriots breeze by Lady Knights 116-37

Box Score

FLORENCE, SC - Junior guard Shana Franks came off the bench to score a career-high 30 points as Francis Marion University cruised to its fourth-largest winning margin ever, a 116-37 non-conference victory over St. Andrews Presbyterian College, Wednesday night (Nov. 19) in women's basketball action.

Francis Marion improves to 2-0 on the season and 30-6 all-time in home openers, while St. Andrews drops to 1-2.

Franks, a transfer from East Carolina University, hit on 13-of-22 shots in only 21 minutes of action, while also grabbing six rebounds and recording six steals.

Five other Patriots reached double figures: junior guard Eboni Fields 14, senior guard Jennifer Dyer 13, sophomore guard Robin Colbert 11, and sophomores Danelle Downs and Shannon Singleton-Bates with 10 each.  At only 5-5, Fields also led the Patriots with a game-high 10 rebounds.  Dyer had seven of FMU's 31 steals.

Freshman guard Brittany Roberts and freshman forward Septembra LeSane led St. Andrews with six points each.  Junior 6-3 center Kayla Hay added five points, seven rebounds, and two assists.

St. Andrews scored the game's first two baskets, and after two minutes the score was knotted at 6-6.  A three-pointer by Franks started a 17-0 FMU run that grew to 65-12 over the final 18 minutes of the first stanza.

The 71 points were the most ever by a Patriot squad in one half, eclipsing the old mark of 69 set in the second half of a 118-32 win over Morris College on Nov. 28, 1984.  The 79-point victory margin was the fourth-largest in team history and the highest in 21 seasons.

Francis Marion held a 70-4 advantage in points-in-the-paint and converted 43 Lady Knight turnovers into 42 points.

Francis Marion will host Chowan University on Saturday at 2 p.m., while St. Andrews opens Conference Carolinas' play on Tuesday at Mount Olive College in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
