Francis Marion University Athletics

Junior Liam Day of the Francis Marion University men's tennis team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Apr. 10-16, 2023.

The Edenvale, South Africa native helped FMU to a 5-0 road win over North Greenville University to clinch the regular-season championship (the program's first since 1999).  Day played at No.1 doubles with Leonel Gonzalez and beat NGU's Tuur Vos and Anthony Cassini 6-4, and followed that with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No.1 singles over Lucas Cardoso 6-3, 6-2.

Day improved his season records to 15-4 in singles and 12-4 in doubles, while upping his career marks to 36-12 in singles and 35-10 in doubles -- the second best winning percentage in program history (.778).

Francis Marion (12-7) will play as the No.1 seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament this weekend at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.  The Patriots will play in the semifinals on Saturday at 2 p.m.
