Senior post player Lauryn Taylor of the Francis Marion University women's basketball team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Jan. 8-14.
The Blythewood, S.C., native averaged 23.5 points, 17.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game in two wins last week, while shooting 64.0 percent from the floor (including 3-of-5 on three-pointers) and hitting 12-of-17 free throw attempts. Taylor registered 22 points, 14 rebounds, and 2 steals in a home win over Barton College and 25 points, 21 rebounds, and four assists on the road during a victory at Lees-McRae College. FMU did not trail in either contest.
Taylor has 11 double-doubles this season (including a current nine-game streak), and leads NCAA II in rebounding and double-doubles. During the week, she also moved into 15th place on the FMU career scoring list (1,440) and 11th place on the career rebounding list (799).
Francis Marion (10-5) will host a non-conference game against Clinton College on Thursday (Jan. 18) at 6 p.m. and then return to Conference Carolinas action on Saturday, Jan. 20, against North Greenville University at 2 p.m.
