Junior Leonel Gonzalez of the Francis Marion University men's tennis team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Mar. 20-26, 2023.

A native of Morelia, Michoacán, México, Gonzalez went 3-0 in both singles (#4) and doubles (#1) last week as FMU ran its win streak to six straight matches.  He eclipsed 50 career combined (singles and doubles) wins during the week.

He and doubles partner Liam Day entered the national rankings at No.50 this week and are 10-2 this season with 10 consecutive wins.

During the week, he did not drop a set as FMU beat Barton College on the road, and Belmont Abbey College and Converse University at home, all by 4-3 scores.  He helped register the clinching doubles win against Belmont Abbey and then the match-clinching singles decision.

The 9-5 Patriots, currently ranked No.45, will travel to 31st-ranked Wingate University on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the squad's only action this week.
