Junior infielder Makayla Cuthbertson of the Francis Marion University softball team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Mar. 13-19, 2023.
A native of Indian Trail, N.C., Cuthbertson batted .619 (13-for-21) last week as FMU won all six of its games. From the leadoff spot in the lineup, she scored 11 runs with two doubles, two triples, three stolen bases, and eight RBIs, while also posting a .905 slugging percentage. She had multiple hits in 4-of-6 games with a 4-for-4 game against Southern Wesleyan University on March 18.
She played two games at third base and four at shortstop, and made only one error in 19 fielding chances.
For the season, Cuthbertson has multiple hits in half of the games (14 of 28) and nine multiple RBI games from the leadoff spot.
The 24-4 Patriots will look to remain unbeaten in conference play as they host the University of Mount Olive for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 4 p.m., before traveling to King University (Tenn.) on Friday at 2 p.m. and to Lees-McRae College on Saturday at noon.
