Francis Marion University / McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week
Francis Marion University senior softball infielder Ashtyn Patterson has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of March 14-20, 2022.
The Andersonville, Tenn., native batted .526 in six games last week with seven runs scored, two doubles, a homer, and seven runs batted in. She also registered a .583 on-base percentage and a .789 slugging percentage from the lead-off spot in the FMU line-up. She had multiple hits in four of the six games. In the field, she committed only one error in 28 fielding chances at shortstop and the hot corner.Â
Those numbers extended her hitting streak to 12 games and her streak of safely reaching base to all 29 games this season. Among her hits last week, was a three-run homer that helped erase a 5-0 deficit as Francis Marion rallied for a 7-5 win over King University (Tenn.) on March 19.
Earlier in the week, it was announced that Patterson was a finalist for the 2021-22 Murphy Osborne Award presented annually by Conference Carolinas to the league's Outstanding Senior Student-Athlete. Patterson owns a perfect 4.0 grade point average at FMU as an art education and psychology double major.
Francis Marion will play a pair of Conference Carolinas road doubleheaders this week, at North Greenville University on Friday and at Southern Wesleyan University on Saturday.
