Freshman left-handed pitcher Garrett Long of the Francis Marion University baseball program was named the McDonald’s Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of April 27-May 3, 2026.

After missing most of the season with an injury, Long made just his fifth start of the year and improved to 3-0 on the mound with a quality start. He allowed just three earned runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and four walks in 7.1 innings (123 pitches) in a 7-3 victory over UNC Pembroke on Saturday (May 2) in an elimination game in the Conference Carolinas Tournament.

Francis Marion will now await the NCAA Selection Show, which will take place at 10 p.m. on Sunday, May 10. FMU appeared fifth in the NCAA Southeast regional rankings, which were released on Wednesday, and will look to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012.
