Senior defender David Guevara of the Francis Marion University men's soccer team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Sept. 8-14, 2025.

Guevara, a native of Guayaquil, Ecuador, started and played all 90 minutes in the Patriots' lone action last week, a 1-1 tie with Chowan University.  The two squads met in last year's Conference Carolinas Tournament final, and were picked first (FMU) and second (Chowan) in this year's preseason coaches poll.

Guevara recorded a team save in the 27th minute when he headed a Chowan shot away from an open goal.  He helped lead the Francis Marion defense that allowed only six shots.

FMU will play a pair of conference road matches this week: Wednesday (Sept. 17) at 7 p.m. at the University of Mount Olive and Saturday (Sept. 20) at 5:30 p.m. at Ferrum College.
