Senior third baseman Peyton Gale of the Francis Marion University softball team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Jan. 27-Feb. 2, 2025.

The Firestone, Colo., native batted .667 (2-for-3) with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and a sacrifice fly in a season-opening doubleheader sweep of Coker University.  Both her hits were home runs and she drove in six runs and scored three times.  She slugged 2.667 and had on on-base percentage of .667.

She hit a third-inning 2-run homer as FMU won the opener 2-0 and then had a sacrifice fly and a 3-run homer in a 12-2 game-two victory.  She did not make an error in three fielding chances at third base.

Francis Marion (2-0) will play a doubleheader at Georgia College on Wednesday at 2 p.m. before hosting Augusta University on Saturday (Feb. 8) at 1 p.m.
