Freshman forward-center Alex Atkinson of the Francis Marion University men's basketball team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Jan. 13-19, 2025.

The native of Hopkins, S.C., averaged 21.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 3.5 blocked shots per game coming off the bench in two wins last week.  He shot a sizzling 16-of-19 from the floor (84.2%) and was 9-of-10 at the foul line, while also recording two assists and two steals.  His week included career-highs of 28 points (on 10-of-11 shooting) and 15 rebounds with 6 blocked shots in a win over the University of Mount Olive, and then a 14-points, 8-rebound, and 1-block outing versus Erskine College.

Francis Marion will play at UNC Pembroke on Wednesday night (Jan. 22) at 7 p.m., before hosting King University on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 4 p.m.
