Junior libero Katie Floyd of the Francis Marion University volleyball team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Oct. 21-27, 2024.
A native iof Campbellsville, Ky., Floyd averaged 4.93 digs per set in four contests last week as the Patriots ran their winning streak to nine matches.  She also recorded 12 assists and three services aces in the 15 sets played, while posting a .950 reception percentage on a team-high 80 serve receptions.
Her week included 20 digs in a 3-0 sweep of Chowan University, 15 digs in a 3-1 win over USC Aiken, 24 digs in a 3-2 victory over Emmanuel University (Ga.), and 15 digs in a 3-0 sweep of Southern Wesleyan University. During the match against SWU, she also surpassed 1,000 digs for her career, becoming the 17th Patriot in program history to reach that milestone.
Francis Marion, now 11-11 overall and 9-3 in Conference Carolinas play, will host UNC Pembroke in the latest installment of the Battle of I-95 on Wednesday (Oct. 30) at 6 p.m. The Patriots will then play at King University (Tenn.) on Friday at 6 p.m. and Lees-McRae College on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Charlotte (N.C.) Country Day School.
