Senior defender JG Garon of the Francis Marion University women's soccer team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Sept. 29-Oct. 6, 2024.

The Fort Mill, S.C., native played all 180 minutes in Francis Marion's two wins last week.  She anchored a Patriot defense that allowed only two goals in the two matches and only eight combined shots, and only three that were on goal.  She also registered two shots in each match, a 4-1 road win over the University of Mount Olive and a 2-1 home win over North Greenville University.  She has helped the Patriots to five straight wins and FMU is unbeaten in its last seven matches.

FMU (6-1-2, 5-0-1) will host local-rival UNC Pembroke on Saturday (Oct. 12) at 4:30 p.m. for another installment of the Battle of I-95.  The Patriots' match at Mars Hill University set for Oct. 9 has been canceled.
