Owen Powell was voted as the Conference Carolinas baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of Feb. 9-15.
A native of Georgetown, S.C., Powell tossed 7.2 innings of scoreless relief on Tuesday in a 14-3 victory over Coker. He earned the win (1-0) while yielding just five hits with five strikeouts and one walk (79 pitches). He entered the game in the second inning, trailing 2-0 and shut down the Cobra offense as the Patriots scored 14 unanswered runs.
In two appearances out of the bullpen this season, Powell owns a 0.00 ERA and a 0.64 WHIP after tossing 9.1 scoreless innings. He has only surrendered five hits while striking out six with just one walk.
Francis Marion hosts Lander University on Tuesday at 4 p.m. before returning Conference Carolinas play this weekend (Feb. 13-14) at Sparrow Stadium with a three-game series versus Shorter University. A single game is scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.
Powell is majoring in supply chain management and economics and is a product of Georgetown High School.
